  8. Whew! I survived my talk in Ateneo! A good friend from St. Luke’s, Dr. Roel Tolentino, invited me yesterday to speak about my experience running Tinta for his Entrepreneurship MBA class at Rockwell. I came in when they were just wrapping up some heady issues like how to deal with a corporation, and why it pays to always have an attorney. The students were all hopsital owners (and one congresswoman), and the thought of them listening to me talk about kids, art, and fun - well, I got a little nervous.

Surprise, surprise. A lot of them were interested in doing tie-ups in their hospitals or local areas. Creativity, it seems, is just as crucial for art as it is for business, says the professor. For my teeny weeny talk, Dr. Roel and his group gave me a huge sansrival cake and an Arrow dress shirt. Thanks, everyone! - Ryan

  9. Finally, our summer art classes poster’s out! I’ve been going through so many versions, but this looks the best. Keep your eyes peeled for these posters around the QC area. :-) - Ryan

  10. Facebooked

Technology has caught up with me. Finally opened a Facebook page for Tinta which is just fantastic. Everyone and their grandma is on Facebook anyway. I’ll be posting pics from here on. Show the love and add us! Hope to see you either on FB or here in the blog. :-)

  11. EJ, one of our drawing students from last year, just being himself with Teacher Kookoo. Looking forward to another fantastic summer for Tinta at Philam. :)

  12. Off to Bangalore

At the moment I’m at an internet cafe in Sinagpore’s airport, halfway on my route to Bangalore, India. So far, I’ve had kesong puti (goat cheese) on toast for breakfast at home, siomai at the airport in Clark, kaya toast and and cold glass of horlicks here in Singapore, and probably, with any luck, veggie curry when I get settled in the hotel in Bangalore. I can never get used to how weird things like cuisine change when in transit. Clearly, the passengers change too. From Filipinos toting Jollibee takeouts, now I’m sitting next to Indians with huge plasma screen sets to bring back home.

Even on the plane from Clark to Singapore, the wailing toddlers babbled and cooed in different languages. One kid even spent a good fifteen minutes throwing up while we descended. Gross, but also pretty hilarious.

I’m headed to India with the intent to try exotic new dishes - bubbling curries and tandoori chicken coated in roaring spices - but also to get my groove back. It’s mostly when I travel that I get wild ideas for writing and art. There’s just something in the air (or the water?) that makes me think differently. Who knows? Maybe I’ll check out the local art scene.

In any case, the fresh change of scenery is welcome enough. Five days can change one’s life, or at least, help one see things from outside looking in. Okay, I’m getting too philosophical as it is.

By this weekend, I’ll have a confirmation for Tinta’s venue in Philam’s Barangay Hall. Once that’s for sure, you’ll be getting more updates on what’s to come. I spoke already with some friends who have some fashion-minded teachers for the ‘Glamor Girls’ course. What’s that? You’ll just have to wait and see.

I wish I knew how to say ‘toodles’ in Hindi. All the same though, take care.
